چکیده

This paper introduces a knowledge-driven approach for solving short range conflicts in En-route STCA situation in order to assist the air traffic controller to handle emergency and ensure the safety. In stead of applying classic conflict resolution approach, case-based reasoning theory and technology is used to transfer the controllers’ knowledge and experience to automate conflict resolution. Firstly on the basis of analysis of the controllers’ conflict resolution knowledge with domain experts, a description of case is well established in a structural framework which has two layers, the first layer with 4 Slot features and the second layer with 19 Side features. Secondly, in case retrieval, the source cases are firstly filtered against constraint parameters then a nearest neighbour algorithm and global similarity measure based approach is applied to calculate the degree of similarity between the target case and the source cases. Finally, two scenario tests are designed to verify the performance of CBR-based conflict resolution model. The results indicate that this method is consistent with the solutions recommended by air traffic control experts and has a good effect in application.

A Near-term Concept for Trajectory-based Operations with Air/ground Data Link Communication

An operating concept and required system components for trajectory-based operations with air/ground data link for today’s en route and transition airspace is proposed. Controllers are fully responsible for separation as they are today, and no new aircraft equipage is required. Trajectory automation computes integrated solutions to problems like metering, weather avoidance, traffic conflicts and...

Initial Evaluation of NextGen Air/Ground Operations with Ground-Based Automated Separation Assurance

NextGen air/ground operations with ground-based automated separation assurance have been initially evaluated with controllers and pilots in the loop at the NASA Ames Research Center. Nominal and off-nominal situations were investigated in a highly automated environment, under 2x and 3x traffic densities. The paper starts with a review of previous simulations on nominal operations, followed by a...

Impact of Conflict Avoidance Responsibility Allocation on Pilot Workload in a Distributed Air Traffic Management System

Pilot workload was examined during simulated flights requiring flight deck-based merging and spacing while avoiding weather. Pilots used flight deck tools to avoid convective weather and space behind a lead aircraft during an arrival into Louisville International airport. The study examined concepts placing conflict avoidance responsibility on different combinations of pilot, controller and aut...

Airborne Conflict Management within Confined Airspace in a Piloted Simulation of DAG-TM Autonomous Aircraft Operations

A human-in-the-loop experiment was performed at the NASA Langley Research Center to study the feasibility of Distributed Air/Ground Traffic Management (DAG-TM) autonomous aircraft operations in highly constrained airspace. The airspace was constrained by a pair of special use airspace (SUA) regions on either side of the pilot’s planned route. The available airspace was further varied by changin...

Automated Conflict Resolution: A Simulation Evaluation Under High Demand Including Merging Arrivals

Performance of an automated conflict resolution algorithm is assessed. Evaluations are based on fast-time simulations of 24 hours of nominal and heavily increased air traffic demand in the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center airspace. Departure, en-route, and arrival traffic were represented, based on recorded Host data. The algorithm is designed to resolve detected conflicts—projected t...
